What is SnapTray?
SnapTray is a free, lightweight screenshot and annotation tool for macOS, Windows, and Ubuntu 22.04 X11 beta. It lives in your system tray and lets you capture regions, annotate screenshots, and pin images. Recording and OCR are not included in the Linux beta.
Is SnapTray free?
Yes, SnapTray is completely free and open source under the MIT license. There are no ads, subscriptions, or hidden costs.
How is SnapTray different from Snipping Tool?
SnapTray goes beyond basic screen capture by offering on-screen annotation tools, pin windows for always-on-top references, screen canvas mode, QR code scanning, and a full CLI for automation. MP4 recording with audio, GIF/WebP export, OCR text extraction, and auto blur are available on macOS/Windows; they are not included in the Linux beta.
